Apprenticeships for Businesses
What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is a course that allows an apprentice to work and earn – in their chosen field while training.
Like all other employees, apprentices should be integrated and regarded in the same way as other employees in the workplace. Apprentices will have an employment contract, holiday entitlement, and access to all applicable benefits. Additionally, they’ll have dedicated time to focus on meeting their Apprenticeship Standard requirements. By the end of the course, apprentices will have gained valuable skills that support their career advancement or further education.
Why do businesses hire apprentices?
More and more businesses are recognising the value of hiring apprentices to invest in the future and secure talent that is precisely aligned with their needs.
The process is more accessible than you may realise. For smaller employers, government funding is available, covering between 95% to 100% of costs. Larger employers can use their levy for Apprenticeship training. Find out more about funding here.
Apprenticeships are versatile, suitable for individuals at any age and career level, and offer a flexible solution to either bring in new talent or enhance the skills of current employees.
Apprenticeships offer employers the opportunity to:
Nurture a motivated, skilled, and qualified workforce – Apprenticeships allow you to develop an apprentice that meets your business needs. Apprentices can bring fresh ideas and perspectives and with the right training, they can become key contributors to your long-term business goals.
Provide on-the-job training within a safe working environment – This allows the apprentice to gain valuable and real-world skills that are directly relevant to your business.
Foster a learning and development culture – By investing in Apprenticeships, you can create an environment that prioritises learning and development which can improve productivity.
Achieve higher staff retention and morale – Apprenticeships often lead to higher staff retention rates as apprentices are more likely to stay on with an employer who has invested time into their training and development.
Promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace – Apprenticeships can provide opportunities to people from different backgrounds a chance to enter your business, which creates a more inclusive workplace.
Apprenticeships are tailored to meet the specific needs of your business, making them a strategic investment in your organisation’s future.
