Our students continue to make strides in their progress, with GCSE pass rates increasing for the third year in a row and eight of ten students securing a job, an apprenticeship or a place on a further education course.

Totton College students who have to re-sit their GCSE exams in English and maths receive excellent tailored support from experienced and skilled staff, enabling them to take their important next step. Many students also take Functional Skills exams in maths and English at level 2, equivalent to a GCSE, with results for these expected to be published later in the year.

Students’ overall achievement rates for maths and English GCSE re-sits continue to exceed national rates, while an increased number of adult learners have passed their GCSE exams this summer.

Around 3,000 students attend 16 Nacro education centres across the country, including Totton College. Totton College offers a wide range of technical and vocational qualifications, including childcare, gaming, music technology, hair and beauty and vehicle mechanics. Students benefit from a work placement linked to their programme, and we also offer a range of apprenticeships, such as in health and social care.

Nacro, now England’s largest independent training provider of its type for 16 to 18 year olds, specialist provision, apprenticeships and adult learning, was rated ‘good’ across the board by Ofsted following an inspection during March 2019.

Totton College student, Luke, said:

“I always struggled to fit in at secondary school and suffered with confidence issues, so I felt invisible and had no sense of direction or purpose. This all changed when I came to Totton College. Teachers never gave up on me and allowed me to try different things until I found my passion. Now I have finished my final year of a Computer Games Technology degree, have set up my own business and have delivered IT skills training to other students and adult learners – all during my degree gap year. I never thought this would be possible but with Totton College, the sky really is the limit.”

Totton College Vice Principal, Hannah Avoth, said:

“We’re immensely proud of the progress our students have made, and all their hard work in the lead up to their GCSE exams this summer. At Totton College, students can choose from a wide range of learning opportunities to give them the skills they need to get on the path to their chosen career. We work closely with local employers and businesses to offer the best volunteer, work experience, apprenticeship and employment opportunities for our students, alongside industry-standard facilities, including a media suite, motor vehicle unit and hair and beauty salon, to enable study within real-life working environments.

“We want all young people receiving GCSE results this week to know that, whether they’ve achieved the grades they hoped for or not, or if they find that they need to re-sit English or maths GCSE, Totton College is here to help them explore their options and take their next steps towards a bright future. They can visit out website or call the Totton College team on 023 8087 4874 to find out more.”
