The MP for New Forest East, Julian Lewis, visited Totton College to learn more about its industry standard facilities, and to find out more about the plan for the new academic year.
Meeting with Totton College’s Principal, Dr. Maxine Room CBE, Dr Lewis was given a tour of the college and had the opportunity to meet with staff and students – including two alumni who are now teaching at the college.
Visiting the college’s industry standard Opus Salon, Dr Lewis spoke with Level 2 Beauty Therapy student Louise Clarke, who, when asked why she choose to study at Totton College, said:
“I chose Totton College because I wanted to study on a practical course and it’s hard to find a beauty therapy course like this. The teachers are also really knowledgeable and approachable.”
Dr Lewis was shown the college’s state-of-the-art video games department, where he got to speak to two former students, Alex Carter and Dan Muir, who recently returned to the college to teach Video Games Development.
The Rt Hon Dr Julian Lewis MP, said:
“I’d like to thank Maxine and all the staff and students at Totton College for making me feel very welcome. I came away from my visit impressed by its wonderful facilities, welcoming atmosphere and sense from students that they really enjoy their time here. We also discussed arranging some visits for the students to Westminster, so they can see democracy at work.”
Maxine Room, Totton College’s Principal, added:
“We were delighted to welcome Dr Lewis to Totton College. The college is an important part of the community, so it was great to get an opportunity to show him a perspective of our journey and what we have achieved over the past year. Outcomes for learners undertaking Maths and English continue to improve, and all our study programmes encourage students to undertake external work placements or gain employability skills through internal placements.”
If you would like to find out more about college’s fantastic facilities, come along to the next Open Evening, Wednesday 14 November, 5.30pm – 7.30pm.
