Joesph Kimera, one of our Supported Internship students has been learning useful skills such as putting together a CV, writing a cover letter and how to get ready for job interviews to prepare Joesph for life after college.

Joesph Kimera added:

“During my time at Totton College, I’ve gained some really useful skills like how to put together a strong CV, write a good cover letter and get ready for interviews. I’ve even had the chance to practice in mock interviews. Right now, I’m doing a work placement at a local charity cafe, which has been a fantastic learning experience. I’ve been getting practical experience with food and drink preparation, serving customers, using tills, and taking orders, all of which are valuable skills for the hospitality industry.

Alongside that, I’m also learning about health and safety, food hygiene, and food preparation in the college cafeteria. I’ve been working hard to improve my English and Maths skills too, which have been super helpful both in and out of college.

I really enjoy my time here, especially attending classes and hanging out with friends and teachers. Exploring the community and meeting new people is something I love doing as well. One of my proudest moments at Totton College was earning certificates in hospitality and making new friends along the way.

For new students joining Totton College, my advice would be to stay open to new experiences and make connections with others as it really enhances your college journey. After I finish at Totton College, I’m aiming to find a job or apprenticeship in the hospitality sector.”
