Facilities equipped for sonic excellence!

Music department facilities

The music facilities at Totton College provide our students with real world experience with up-to-date equipment and training. Our staff are industry specialists with real world experience able to share understanding and knowledge in a professional environment.

Mac suite

Our Mac suite is equipped with 18 iMacs each with Logic Pro X, Focusrite Audio Interfaces, AKG headphones and a range of MIDI keyboards, enabling our students to compose and produce tracks ready for commercial release.

Recording studio

In our recording studio we have a MIDAS M32 digital mixing desk and a range of outboard effects for students to learn how to record and route audio signals, employing industry standard techniques. We also have Rokit KRK 8 monitor speakers and reference monitors so our students can fully appreciate the sounds they record. We have access to a range of industry standard microphones including the Rode NT1A and an sE Electronics sE2200a II.

The studio is used for a variety of purposes from recording full bands and solo artists to recording foley for moving image and is kitted with a Mapex drum kit and Laney, Fender and Marshall bass and guitar amps. Our studio for band rehearsals is also available when not in use.

Rehearsal spaces

We have three dedicated band rehearsal facilities as well as multiple smaller rehearsal spaces and studios for students to write, rehearse and record in. These are equipped with PA systems, Mapex and Yamaha drum kits alongside Marshall, Peavy, and Laney amps. We also have access to a range of synthesizers including a Korg Minilogue XD and a Roland TR8s. In one of our rehearsal spaces, you will also find an Alesis Mesh Head Electronic Drum Kit.

Live performances

As well as gaining experience in the on-site facilities provided, our students also learn how to set up and operate a host of live sound reinforcement equipment including the Allen and Heath zed-420, Yamaha PA system and a host of outboard effects. Our students learn how to use this equipment in a variety of scenarios in college and then plan their own events at well-established venues including The Joiners, The Rockhouse in Andover and Hanger Farm Arts Centre to gain real world experience performing and operating this equipment.
