We know that you may have questions about what it’s like to study with us here at Totton College. Here we answer your most frequently asked questions.

When do courses start?

Most of our courses start in September 2025. For some courses, alternative start dates might be set and for Skills for Life and Pathways, some courses will start earlier to help introduce students to their fellow classmates and our campus. More details about your start date will be shared as part of your enrolment.

Do I have to pay for anything?

For most students, courses are free as costs are covered through government funding. However, this will depend on your age and funding eligibility. Bursaries can help with costs like travel and learning essentials.

How am I assessed on my course?

It depends on your course. We use a variety of assessment methods for students including coursework, portfolios, exams, practical assessments and more. Your teachers will provide further details about what is expected and you can see more details for individual courses on our website and in this prospectus.

Do I need any experience before starting?

Each of our courses has its own entry requirements. As part of your application, we will discuss any particular requirements with you. We will ensure that you start at the right level and that you have the right level of maths and English for your course. Every course is subject to an interview as part of the application process. For further details, please refer to the individual course entry requirements located on the courses pages on our website or in the prospectus.
