Entry requirements
At least four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above including English and Maths, and a completed an NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent industry experience.
What will I learn?
You’ll gain expertise in techniques such as colouring, cutting, perming and dressing hair, gaining the qualifications you need to carry out hairdressing services. By the end of the course, you’ll understand more about the hairdressing industry and be ready for work:

Develop your cutting and dressing hair skills
Enhance your dexterity
Gain an in-depth understanding of hair styling and treatments
Work Experience
You’ll take part in 60 hours’ work experience during the year in a relevant placement.

Monitor and maintain health and safety practices in the salon
Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks
Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
Creative hairdressing design skills
Hair colour correction
Men’s hair cutting
Colour hair to create a variety of looks
These units are subject to change.
Assessment
You will be assessed through a combination of portfolio evidence, practical tests, and either knowledge and understanding tasks or an online test.
Enrichment Opportunities
Extra-curricular activities and community projects will be included, for example at Totton Carnival.
Career and Progression
You can progress to university and continue to develop your skills. If you’d rather start your career, this internationally-recognised qualification will allow you to work in salons and spas, as well as on cruise ships or contracts in the Caribbean, Canada, UAE and Europe.
Funding and bursaries

Advanced Learner Loans are available for students who are aged 19 or over. Repayments do not begin until the course is completed and you are earning £25,000 or over.
