This course is suited for students who may have limited communication skills and those who would benefit from a highly structured environment. In Everyday Living Skills (ELS), students are supported to build upon personal independent skills through a multi-sensory approach. Students are encouraged and supported to make meaningful choices, whilst experiencing a range of everyday life skills.

  • An emphasis on kinaesthetic learning
  • A diverse programme of leisure, community access, and enrichment activities

Work Experience

There is the opportunity to do a work’s week experience.

Assessment

You’ll be assessed through a combination of portfolio evidence, practical tasks and statements from teachers.

Enrichment Opportunities

You can get involved in extra-curricular activities and local community projects.

Career and Progression

Each year you will have an annual review at which your progression route will be discussed. You may continue to develop your skills by progressing onto the Life, Independence and Social Skills course.

Skills for Life is a dedicated SEND specialist department for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Our Skills for Life team supports learners throughout their academic journey, preparing them for adulthood, employment and/or independent living.
Our courses are suitable for students with an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP).

Courses are discussed during the application and enrolment process and are progression routes are reviewed as part of the annual review process each year. When deciding on the right course for the student, we consider the students’ prior qualifications and courses, academic ability, and social skills.

Funding and bursaries

Students if you’re aged over 19 you may be eligible for free tuition depending on the course you want to study, your existing qualifications and your financial circumstances. For more information email info@totton.ac.uk or call 023 8087 4874.

Advanced Learner Loans are available for students who are aged 19 or over. Repayments do not begin until the course is completed and you are earning £25,000 or over.
