This course will give you a great grounding in the techniques and theory behind a wide range of beauty treatments. From the beginning, you’ll work in our state-of-the art Opus Salon. When you’re confident, you’ll treat real clients to a commercial standard with the support of our highly qualified tutors.

Learners have the opportunity to be involved in a range of extracurricular activities and community projects, including Totton Carnival.

Whether you want to work in a salon, spa or for yourself, this course will get you on the path to becoming a modern beauty therapist.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) and above, including Maths and English, or a Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy. Learners who do not have grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths study them alongside their course.

Work Experience

You’ll take part in 60 hours’ work experience during the year in a relevant setting.

Client care and communication

Provide facial skin care

Promoting additional services

Remove hair using waxing techniques

Provide manicure & pedicure treatments

Apply make-up

Provide lash and brow treatments

Salon reception duties

Assessment

You’ll be assessed through a combination of portfolio evidence, practical tasks, and knowledge and understanding tasks or an online test. Clinic hours will also need to be completed outside of your teaching timetable.

As part of the course, you get the chance to be involved in a range of extra-curricular activities and community projects – including Totton Carnival.

Career and Progression

You can continue to develop your skills by progressing to a Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, which is highly desirable within the beauty industry, or you can start your career in a salon with an apprenticeship.

 

Funding and bursaries

Advanced Learner Loans are available for students who are aged 19 or over. Repayments do not begin until the course is completed and you are earning £25,000 or over.
